2022 Community Transport Symposium

  • Claudelands Event Centre Gate 4 Brooklyn Road, Claudeland Hamilton New Zealand (map)

"Community Transport" describes volunteer-based transport services which are operated by local people to meet local needs for transport. On 12th November 2019, the Waikato Community Transport Forum hosted its first half-day symposium with local, national, and international guests. It was a great success, with over 100 people attending including representatives from 30 different community providers across the Waikato region. More information on that event can be found here: 2019 Symposium.

These symposiums are intended to bring together those who are involved in Community Transport in New Zealand; to provide a voice and articulate a vision for the sector's future. Lending us her expertise and voice this year, Dr Bridget Doran will deliver the keynote speech on the topic “Speaking Up: International insights on giving voice and governance to the Community Transport sector in Aotearoa”. Bridget is a chartered engineer and researcher with twenty years of experience in transport policy, design, community engagement, and participatory planning. She has a Masters of Engineering in transportation and a PhD in cognitive psychology, granting her powerful insight into how diverse groups of people think and behave. As Chair of Engineering New Zealand’s Transportation Group she has thorough understanding of transport sector practices. She has spent her career working closely with New Zealand’s disabled community and other under-served groups and is recognised as a leading researcher bridging transport and equity issues in New Zealand. Bridget has had a special interest in community transport for the last decade and is a regular contributor to the Waikato community transport forum.

We have seen unparalleled change to our social landscape since the last symposium. This year's event will provide an opportunity to revisit how we intend to keep going and foster increased support for community transport.

This event is for people working in the Transport, Policy, and Health Sector.
