Workshop details:

This workshop is designed especially for new managers to cover the practical basics of running a community organisation be it a Charitable Trust or Incorporated Society. The workshop will be facilitated by Community Waikato Advisors.

Sarah has worked in the community sector for a long time; been a primary school teacher for 12 years in NZ and abroad; held a variety of community development roles in England over 10 years; and on return to NZ was the manager of an environmental organisation for 8 years.

In most of those roles she had to secure the funding for her salary and the programmes, so developed an interest in all aspects of community funding and sustainability. She has sat on funding allocation committees, advised funders in establishing funder models and currently sits on two small allocation committees.

Sarah came to Community Waikato as an advisor in 2012. She enjoys combining her teaching and community experience to deliver workshops in our Awesome Organisations programme, especially topics for the clubs and roadshows.

At the age of 17 Sarah was given the chance by Lugton Park Tennis Club in Hamilton to be on their executive committee. She has always valued that time as the beginning of the rewarding experience of sitting on various trusts and committees taking a governance role.

Sarah was 10 when her family moved to Hamilton, and left at 21 with no intention of living back in the region. Plans change – and now she is back and loving the Waikato. She is passionate about the environment and spends much of her free time enjoying conservation projects and tramping the extensive tracks in New Zealand with friends and family.
