Paula Southgate has over 18 years experience and involvement in community and environmental projects. In her early days at Waikato Regional Council she sought a role in championing biodiversity in cities, and became part of the development team for Project Halo. She also published a report on Cities and Biodiversity as part of a Kelloggs Rural Leadership Scholarship.
Paula Southgate has 18 years experience in Local Government. The first 15 years were spent at the Waikato Regional Council. She held the position of Chairperson 2013-2016. Over the last 3 years she has been a councilor at Hamilton City Council holding the portfolio of Chair of Community Services and Environment. Paula is a member of the Policy Advisory Group of Local Government NZ. Prior to politics Paula was employed in the educational and mental health sector. Paula describes herself as love of movies, walks by the river, good coffee and travel. She enjoys living in Hamilton with her husband Greg and her family.
